A trip down memory lane
We are feeling particularly nostalgic this month and wanted to flashback to Dux de Lux, the venue that started it all. Established in 1980, Dux de Lux was groundbreaking for the hospitality industry, with our bold and controversial organic, vegetarian-only menu, one of the first craft beer breweries in NZ and an iconic range of live musicians. Heartbreakingly, Dux de Lux came crashing down in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

"I’m a big fritter fan and love how you can make them from so many different types of vegetables and add herbs and spices of your choice. So they are very versatile and make a delicious lunch or dinner alone or with salad and some baked vege. I always serve them with a chutney or relish to dress them up a bit."
Richard Sinke, the owner of the Dux Group, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in 1980 with the purchase of the radical vegetarian restaurant, ‘Dux De Lux.’ Over the past four decades, he has consistently expanded the Dux Group, shaping it into its present-day form.

A singer with a poetic, restrained intensity, Kate Owen has been song-writing for twenty years and performing live for a decade.
Owen’s debut album, ‘Not A Proper Girl’ was released 13 March 2020. Recorded with Ben Edwards (The Sitting Room, Lyttelton). The album showcases Owen’s songs with rich textures including synth and strings, and strong rhythmic pulses from live kits and drums machines. The result is an album with a sound that has been likened to PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi and Sharon Van Etten. Catch Kate at Dux Dine at one of our Friday live performances!
